The Punic Wars

The Romans fought a series of wars against the Carthaginian empire. These wars were very important as they established Rome as one of the most powerful empires in the known world. They also showed that the Romans were able to overcome great difficulties. The first war known as the First Punic War was fought over the island of Sicily. The Second Punic War involved Hannibal Barca and the Carthaginian empire on the Iberian peninsula. The Third Punic War was the total destruction of Carthage
