Roman Gladiators! |
|
Gladiatorial fights started as a religious event, the first known gladiatorial games were held in 310 BCE by the companions. But the first roman gladiatorial game was held in 246 BCE by Decimus and Marcus Brutus in honor of their father as a funeral gift for the dead. Starting from religious origins the gladiatorial games turned into defining symbols of roman culture and an important part of the roman culture for almost seven centuries. The word gladiator comes from the Latin word “gladius” which means sword. They used many weapons and were heartthrobs to women in Rome. Gladiators were the heroes of Rome. |
